A man who fired at a Goldston firefighter at a brush fire earlier this year has been charged with an additional offense.
Jackie Ray Caudle, 52, confronted firefighters on Jan. 5 as they attempted to locate the source of smoke, according to CBS17.
He then “took aim at a firefighter inside a truck and discharged the firearm in the direction of the emergency responder,” according to a sheriff's office release.
The firefighter was not injured.
“Our first responders play a vital role in safeguarding our community. Their selfless service should never be met with threats of violence, which not only endanger their lives but also undermine the fabric of trust and security within our community," Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson said.
Caudle is now charged with a felony assault on a firefighter or medical personnel with a firearm.
